"Crimes like shoplifting have spiked significantly since the Walmart opened within Lakeside in 2013. The need for a police presence has caused a shift in law enforcement focus."
Drivers of Sheridan Boulevard may welcome the relief from Lakeside's infamous speed trap -- but understand that the reason noted above tells us all plenty about what the Arvada city council and urban renewal authority are trying to bring into our community.

And there is this from the news report: "Documents also show the Town of Lakeside has had to take "advances" from the Walmart developer of about $1 million to operate as a town and to pay its police force."
The $6 million tax subsidy that the Arvada Plaza Walmart Supercenter will get means that there won't be any increase in sales tax revenue to the city government for years and years to come -- it goes back to Walmart!
So, the Arvada taxpayers and other Arvada businesses pony-up for the police department (and other city services), but Walmart gets back the sales tax it collects. What a deal!
Not free enterprise, not the power of the market place -- Walmart in Arvada is corporate welfare -- plain and simple.
